Every three years, the Solo Trans Tasman yacht race sets off from the harbour in New Plymouth, heading toward Southport. In 2023, I had the opportunity to capture this challenging and exhilarating race from the very start. Despite the rough conditions, I ventured out to photograph the sailors as they embarked on their journey, ensuring that I captured the excitement and intensity of the race before the competitors ventured too far out to sea.

The photos not only document the tough conditions and competitive spirit of the event but also highlight the stunning maritime scenery. My goal was to provide a vivid portrayal of the race's dramatic moments and the skill of the sailors, offering a visual record of this prestigious event in the yachting calendar.
